James Bond-007 in Ian Fleming's 'Casino Royale'

Hallo mensen! Ik ben weer even terug. Intussen is er behoorlijk wat meer nieuws bekend over de nieuwe James Bond film. Daniel Craig wordt 'm dus. Maar volgende week wordt de rest van de cast officieel bekend gemaakt. Ook kunnen we voor de 30e januari een eerste teaser poster en teaser trailer verwachten, met de eerste bewegende beelden van Craig als Bond.

Maar eerst de cast. Volgende week is er dus een officieel persbericht, maar er is al zoveel uitgelekt. Hier is ie. Pas alleen even op, er zitten ontiechelijk grote spoilers in!:

James Bond-007. Hij behoeft geen nadere uitleg. Brits acteur Daniel Craig (37 jr.) speelt 'm.


Vesper Lyndt. In de film is ze niet zomaar een Bond girl. Ze moet James Bond voorzien van geld namens de Britse regering én MI6. Dit geld wordt gebruikt voor het casino, om 'Le Chiffre' uit te kopen, en om ervoor te zorgen dat 'Le Chiffre' geen geld verdient en dit besteedt aan terrorisme. Vesper Lyndt wordt gespeeld door de Australische actrice Rose Byrne (1979), bekend van o.a. 'Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones (2002)' en 'Troy (2004)'


Demetrius. Hij moet de belangrijkste schurk zijn uit Casino Royale. Wel is het nog onbekend of hij 'Le Chiffre' is. 'Le Chiffre' zou zomaar eens de nieuwe Blofeld kunnen worden. Maar Demetrius is een slinkse mediterrane man afkomstig uit de Albanese regionen. Ook hij gaat met James Bond achter de goktafel. Hij is de financiële kracht achter een nieuw misdaadsyndicaat. De Franse acteur Simon Abkarian is gecast voor deze rol. Hij is relatief onbekend, geboren in 1962.


Solongé. Zij is in Casino Royale de vriendin van Demetrius. Over haar rol is nog niet veel bekend. Wel is ze sluw en gemeen. Actrice Caterina Murino speelt Solonge. Murino is geboren in Cagliari, Italië, in 1974. Ze speelde voornamelijk in Franse speelfilms, waaronder 'L'Amour Aux Trousses (2005)' en 'Les Bronzés Amis Pour La Vie (2006)'


Solari. Dit is een henchman in de film en ex-rebel uit Sudan. Hij staat Demetrius bij. Hij is goed in martial arts vechtkunsten. Frans acteur Seydina Baldi speelt Solari en is ook een nieuwkomer. Hieronder staat ie, helemaal rechts


De overige rollen zijn al wel gecast, maar wie ze gaan spelen is nog niet bekend:

Kraft. Nog een henchman, maar dan eentje van het formaat 'Jaws'

Massus. Deze Griekse man is om en nabij de 60 jaar en is Bond's collega-spion. Hij is dus een soort van 'Felix Leiter. In het originele boek was deze collega niet een Griek, maar een Fransman met de naam René Mathis.

Bliss. Ook dit is een Bond girl, maar over haar is nog niet veel bekend, behalve dan dat ze een 'associate' is van Demetrius.

En tot slot....'Le Chiffre'. Hierover is nog iedereen in nevelen gehuld. Sommigen zeggen dat hij dezelfde persoon is als Demetrius, maar anderen zeggen dat hij de komende Bond films ook een belangrijke rol krijgt, als een soort hoofd van het nieuwe misdaadsyndicaat.

Dat nieuwe misdaadsyndicaat is een goed georganiseerde. Het syndicaat speelt een belangrijke rol in het terrorisme. Dit wordt het belangrijkste gevaar voor de komende James Bond film.

Tot slot, speelt het verhaal zich af in de Servische republiek Montenegro. En James Bond ontmoet Vesper Lyndt voor het eerst in een trein.

Voor de mensen die niet genoeg kunnen krijgen. op http://filmforce.ign.com hebben editors 8 pagina's aan script weten te bemachtigen, die gebruikt zijn bij de laatste screentests, en die sowieso weer hergebruikt gaan worden voor de Bond film zélf:

IGN FilmForce has had the chance to see eight script pages from the upcoming James Bond film, Casino Royale. These pages have been used for auditioning actresses for the role of Bond girl Vesper Lynd, a part that Aussie thesp Rose Byrne has reportedly won (although an official announcement was not made today, as had been suggested by earlier news reports).

I will be on my best behavior here out of respect for both the filmmakers and Bond fans but must nevertheless issue a SPOILER WARNING.

First, I must clarify a matter that has gotten several Bond fansite message boards fired up. In IGN's recent casting exclusive, I revealed that sources referred to the part of the villain as just that: the villain and not "Le Chiffre," as he was named in Ian Fleming's novel. I emphasized that just because the source did not call him that it didn't mean he would not be called Le Chiffre. Nevertheless, some fans took it as gospel that Le Chiffre was out. (It should be noted that there is also a secondary villain named "Demetrius.")

According to these script pages, issued in late December 2005, 007's antagonist at the gaming tables of the titular casino is indeed called Le Chiffre. Also, Bond's intelligence contact is, as he was in the book, called "Mathis" here, however, our recent casting info said he was now a Greek character named "Massus." There are two other supporting characters' names revealed here: someone named Bliss (a woman, I presume) and an associate of Le Chiffre's named Kratt.

These pages focus on Vesper and Bond, the relationship that is at the heart of Casino Royale. Vesper is not introduced until forty pages into this particular draft of the script. Her meeting with Bond takes place onboard a train (shades of From Russia with Love and Hitchcock's North by Northwest). Vesper is "the money," a Treasury operative sent to keep Bond funded in his match against Le Chiffre. She is the bureaucrat there to keep an eye on the government's money. If Bond burns through his initial ten million stake then it's up to Vesper to decide if he gets more. (There is a humorous moment later on where we learn that even 007 pays taxes.)

Vesper and Bond's first scene together in the train dining car is laced with an aggresive sexual tension and biting sarcasm as they each take turns sizing the other one up. I can imagine that this scene has been tweaked innumerable times as it is perhaps the key scene in the entire movie, setting up not only the picture's romantic subplot but also planting the seeds for the story's climax.

Like Sherlock Holmes, Bond thinks he has Vesper pegged judging by her appearance and manner (described as beautiful but no-nonsense). Vesper, however, gives as good as she gets, properly deducing that Bond's well-groomed manner belies a chip on his shoulder and perhaps an inferiority complex (there are elements of Ian Fleming's own background and issues here). Bond, however, also deduces that Vesper wants to be taken seriously and overcompensates for being beautiful by being more aggressive and "masculine," if you will.

We come to learn that both Bond and Vesper are orphans. Vesper joins the elite few Bond girls who have spoken about their late parents: Honey Rider in Dr. No, Melina Havelock in For Your Eyes Only, Elektra King in The World Is Not Enough and Octopussy in, well, take a guess. This gives their characters an added dimension beyond being mere eye candy.

Le Casino Royale itself is set in Montenegro, and is described as a structure of "fading grandeur" dominating a hilltop town. Confirming earlier rumors, James Bond will indeed be playing poker in the film's set-piece showdown with Le Chiffre rather than Baccarat, which was the game in the book. And, confirming other rumors, Le Chiffre is indeed involved in bankrolling terrorist operations. Bond is worried that, should he lose, Le Chiffre will now have British government money in his pocket to go fund suicide bombers with. There is no grand "if he wins all this money then he will buy a doomsday weapon" gimmick evident in these pages but that's not to say there couldn't be one. That said, it was nice to see Bond confronting a more down-to-earth threat, like stopping a wealthy financier of suicide bombers. 007 understands that beating Le Chiffre won't stop all of them but he will settle for stopping a few of them. Better than none at all.

Bond sees gambling and poker as a matter of odds and probability not chance. Bluffing is an essential part of that strategy, as is the ability to read people. But, as in Fleming's novel, Bond does not initially beat Le Chiffre at the gaming table. This sobering defeat gnaws at 007, exposing his arrogance and impatience, and forcing him to ask Vesper for more funds. Despite losing that round, Bond still believes he can beat Le Chiffre at the table. The pages ended just as 007 was to confront Le Chiffre again.
Bond's arrogance will cost him in Casino Royale.

The most refreshing and exciting aspect of these pages is that the storytellers clearly want this film to be about James Bond, first and foremost. This 007, apparently not long out of the SAS, is an arrogant, cocksure man whose ego and hubris will prove his undoing. Like Batman Begins, it explores the man behind the myth without losing what makes him so cool and iconic to begin with. If the final script is remotely like these few pages then Casino Royale should prove to be a relatively faithful adaptation of Ian Fleming's first novel and an insightful peek into the heart and psyche of 007.

IGN FilmForce has learned that casting is being finalized and that Casino Royale is slated to begin filming at the end of month for a November bow.[

EN: Het ziet er naar uit dat het boek 'Casino Royale compleet intact is gelaten, met kleine nodige aanpassingen aan het jaar 2006. Hier nog een vette spoiler. Een nog gedetailleerder script. De scenes vlak voor de main titles spelen zich hoogstwaarschijnlijk af in de jaren 60, en toont ons de voorganger van M. Na de maintitles zijn we in 2006. Let dus op, een giga grote spoiler. The script is really cool. An origin story. For starters the story is contemporized. The story does not take place during the cold war. The 1st 4 pages before the main title sequence shows us how James Bond got his double O ranking - his 1st two kills of MI6 Section Chief DRYDEN (for selling secrets) and Dryden's contact in Lahore, Pakistan FISHER. James catches up with Fisher in a Crickett Ground rest room. James has no kills and to get your Double O it takes two kills.

The MAIN TITLE sequence is the following - photos from Bond's CV, including his stint in the SAS, intercut with a high printing press. The sequence ends with crime scene photos of the two killings, Dryden and Fisher. After each killing, Bond's ID Badge is stamped with a 0 - until it is laminated as 007. A hand places the ID badge in the folder with the photos and the unseen clerk carries it off into the bowels of MI6.

Next we are in a jungle camp in Gulu, Uganda and meet STEVEN OBANNO, feared leader of the Lord's Resistance army. He hooks up with a man with gold-rimmed glasses simply known as MR. WHITE. Mr. White introduces Obanno to LE CHIFFRE who pulls up in three SUVS. Le Chiffre has provided reliable banking services for many other freedom fighters over the years. Obanno wants no risk in the portfolio and Le Chiffre agrees. Obanno gives Le Chiffre three metal boxes of money. Obanno wants to know if can access his money anywhere in the world. Le Chiffre takes a hit from an inhaler, gives Obano a business card and tells Obanno he has locations at most major airports. In this scene we also meet VALENKA, Le Chiffre's beautiful bodyguard.

Next, on page 7 we catch up with Bond and his teammate CARTER at a commune in Madagascar watching a fight to the death between a cobra and a mongoose. They are tailing BOMBER who is in the crowd watching the fight. The cover is blown and a multiple page chase scene ensues at a construction site, which spills over into the Nambutu embassy. One of the things I hate as a reader of screenplays is when I read thick dense chunks of description. Haggis' descriptions of action scenes go for 10 up to 18 lines! Huge ass paragraphs. If I were doing coverage on this script, I would discipline the writer. Once a writer gets successful though, he goes back to bad old habits. One of the gems of SHOOT' EM UP is that the action and description where no more than one line two lines tops! That writer broke up the action.

A note to the Mr. Haggis:

Mr. Haggis, you're Oscar nominated, the man and all but breakup the action every 4 lines or so please. Easier on the eyes and the reader. Don't be lazy. This is a screenplay not a novel. Thanks buddy! Loved Crash!

Back to the chase scene:

Bond blows Bomber away and gets caught on a security camera doing so! Bond is a little sloppy. He takes Bomber's wallet a finds a playing card ripped in half - the Queen of Hearts. On the dead guy's cell phone he reads a text message - "Ellipsis."

Next, Le Chiffre hosts a high stakes poker game on his yacht. KRATT, Le Chiffre's dangerous looking henchman approaches and whispers in Le Chiffre's ear. Le Chiffre is pissed. He goes into his bedroom and logs on to CNN.com on his laptop. Ellipsis expires in 36 hours. Just before Le Chiffre closes the laptop we see the headline: "British Agent Executes Embassy Employee", accompanied by a blurry high angle photo of Bond firing his weapon.

Back at a London newsstand, more shots of newspaper headlines, "Our Secret Murder Squad" with the security camera angles of Bond shooting and killing Bomber. Another stack of newspapers comes into frame: "MI6 kills Unarmed Prisoner." We rise up to see The House of Parliament.

Inside a private corridor in the House of Commons, M (Judi Dench) strides out with her aide, VILLIERS. He has never seen her this pissed. The words fly out of her mouth. M is like how could Bond be so stupid?! She gives him Double O status and he celebrates by shooting up an embassy? Is the man deranged? And where the hell is he? In the old days if an agent did something so embarrassing he'd have the good sense to defect. She misses the Cold War.

Where is Bond?

He breaks into M's house!

We almost find out what M's name is. She threatens to kill him if he utters another syllable. He uses her laptop at home to do a trace on the sim card from the cell phone of the Bomber that Bond called. They argue. Bond is an arrogant prick in this script and full of ego. She reads him the riot act on being a secret agent and all. He leaves.

Next we are in Nassau, Grand Bahama Island. Here is where we learn how Bond gets that Aston Martin of his. He tails a man DIMITRIOS and his wife SOLANGE. Bond looks up Dimitrios on a secure website. Alex Dimitrios, officially listed as a government contractor in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechneya, Rwanda, Nicaragua, El Salvador, going back to the 70s. Dealer in arms, information, ties to death squads and right wing paramilitary groups.

What is cool is that Bond logs on to the secure website using M's password! Back in London, M's is made aware of this as she is awaken from her sleep by Villiers (M's aide). Bond also looks up known associates. An old photo of Le Chiffre appears who was supposedly executed in Iraq in 1998.

Bond beats Dimitrios at the One and Only Country club. Gee, I wonder what car Bond won in the game? Bond takes his new car, pulls up to the valet and drives his Dimitrios wife, Solange home. Bond has a thing for married women because it keeps things simple.

Bond follows Dimitrios to Miami. Bond steals his cell phone and gets into it with a bad guy named CARLOS. A huge action set piece occurs here for the next couple of pages on the tarmac at Miami airport that climaxes on page 35. I won't spoil it here. It's really cool and worth waiting for. Really huge action scene. The result of this scene causes Le Chiffre to lose one hundred and one million, two hundred and six thousand dollars.

Bond goes back to Dimitrios house where he hooks up with M. A MI6 CSI team combs the crime scene. Solange is dead. Bond gets a tracer installed into the back of his wrist so that MI6 can track him at all times. We find out that Dimitrios worked as a middleman, always knew how to put his hands on weapons and people who could use them. Worked with anyone who had the money. For years, he was tied to a man known as Le Chiffre, private banker to terrorists and organized crime. He invested their money and gave them access to it whenever they needed it. Saddam took a disliking to him after Desert Storm and cut off his head. M believes Le Chiffre is Albanian. A chess prodigy bit of a mathematical genius. Loved to prove it by playing poker. When they analyzed the stock market after 9/11 the CIA discovered there had been massive shorting of airline stocks. When the stocks hit bottom on 9/12, somebody made a fortune.

The same thing happened that morning with the Boeing stock, or was supposed to. With their prototype destroyed the company would have been near bankruptcy. Instead, someone lost over a hundred million dollars betting the wrong way. Mr. Le Chiffre isn't quite as dead as he should be, which would explain how he was able to set up a high stakes poker game at Casino Royale in Montenegro. Ten players, ten million dollar buy-in, five million re-buy. Winner-takes-all. Potentially a hundred and fifty million. M wants Le Chiffre alive. Le Chiffre doesn't have 100 million to lose; he was playing the market with his clients' funds and the client's won't like it when they find out it's gone.

If Le Chiffre loses this game, he will have nowhere to run. M will give him sanctuary for everything he knows. She is putting Bond in the game, replacing someone playing for a syndicate. According to Villiers, Bond is the best player in the service. M wishes that wasn't the case…

…and that folks is the set up for Casino Royale.

On page 39, the start of Act II, the crossing of the first threshold scene on a train is where Bond meets VESPER LYND who works for the treasury department. She puts Bond in his place and the use of exposition here in this scene is very clever. We find out more personal information about Bond in this scene in regards to his upbringing and background.

For those of you fanatics who must know and I am going to say it here - yes - the carpet beater scene is in here. Very painful to read. For those of you who didn't read the novel - James Bond is tortured and they go to work on a body part only men have. Ouch! The filmmakers have balls (no pun intended) to include this. Kudos to Campbell and Haggis for keeping it in there.

This story shows us why James Bond is the way he is, the chip on his shoulder, and the origins of the super secret agent to be. For sure, the edgiest of the Bond films because this is Bond at his most edgy. For sure, the Bond that Fleming intended and the fans have clamored to see.

Overall, a fantastic read and quite the origin story although contemporized, which may piss off some fans but for me the story works because the cold war is over after all. I have a feeling that if Ian Fleming were alive, he would contemporize the story also to go with today's times. As of this writing, they still haven't cast the part of Vesper and Le Chiffre. They are probably shooting the big action set pieces and chase scenes from Act I that don't require either Vesper or Le Chiffre.

We might do a script review of it because it is one of the best un-produced spec scripts out there. I hope Warners grows the cojones to make the film

Nieuwe James Bond tanden uitgeslagen

LONDEN - De kans is groot dat de nieuwe James Bond, de 37-jarige Daniel Craig, slissend door het leven moet. Tijdens opnames in Praag sloeg een 'bandiet' tijdens de eerste vechtscène per vergissing twee voortanden uit Craigs mond. Dat heeft het Britse zondagsblad Sunday Mirror bericht.

Craig was bezig met een verfilming van een remake van Casino Royale toen hij geraakt werd. De acteur greep naar zijn bloedende mond en wankelde achteruit. De cameramannen dachten aanvankelijk nog dat het een briljante acteerprestatie was van Craig, de opvolger van Pierce Brosnan, de vorige 007-vertolker.

Het is de bedoeling dat de nieuwe Bond-film in november in de bioscopen komt: "My name issssss Bond, Jamesssss Bond".

Hehe, gelukkig lees ik net dat het allemaal meevalt. Tabloids als Daily Mirror en The Sun hebben het verhaal compleet uit z'n verband getrokken. Naar ik weet was er veel bloed, maar alleen omdat beide tanden door de lippen gingen. Dus..........even goed stunten hoor Craig!! .

Als acteur heb je natuurlijk het geld om dure porseleinen kronen en voortanden te plaatsen. Dus problemen zie ik niet voor de opnamen van Casino Royale. Maar tis natuurlijk altijd bagger om je tanden te verliezen.
