{edit: Ik heb het in het engels geschreven omdat ik zo mijn engels misschien nog een beetje omhoog krik voor mijn examen...Ik weet het, het is niet echt goed, maar wie weet :{ }

Star Trek - The Alpha:

1

'Captain's log supplemental,

we're still underway towards mongolina prime without any disturbances. So far we have had only a few strange readings, but we have also found the origin of those readings.

We only have 2 more days to go before we arrive at our destination. Lets hope those days are as quiet as these few had been.

Rodriquez out.'

'As you have heard, captain Rodriquez had 2 more days to go before arriving in the Mongolina System. However, that was 1 week ago.' commander larby paused his speech. She was standing in front of a big room. There was no doubt about it: this was a briefing room. The room was filled with chairs and computer consoles, all standing in horizontal rows.
In front of the row was a big pedestal where people could speak to the rest. The pedestal was equipped with consoles with which you could direct images directly to the huge screen to the back right of the pedestal. There was another console located to the far right of the view screen. If there were guests that also needed to be briefed about an away mission or something like that, the person could sit there.

Behind the pedestal was commander Larby standing and tapping a few buttons. Commander Larby was very intriguing to look at. She had long brown hair that was clipped together like a tail. She was tall and had the most beautiful eyes that anyone had ever seen. Sometimes men liked to joke about those eyes towards here, saying that her father and mother were thieves.....they had stole the Milky Way and putted it into her eyes. She always smiled when that was said because she knew that that one was the oldest one in the book. She had read it one's in the Starfleet database. The article was full with interesting one-liners to begin a conversation with a beautiful lady. Larby was amazed with what people had come up with over the centuries.

Commander Larby also had a charming personality with a interesting 'side-effect'. She was always cheerful and nice to people, but when she was on duty it was just the opposite. She liked a firm tight schedule and didn't like to wait for things to be done. She didn't scare back to give an opinion or to put someone straight. allot of people didn't like her as an commander but did respect the way she tried to run the ship. Just recently, she and almost her whole crew were transferred to another ship. She got a new ship, a new environment and a new captain. She wasn't so pleased about it, but she was glad that both the ship and the captain were experienced.

Now she was standing in front of a room with four men and woman who were, in her opinion, inexperienced and unskilled. When she confronted the captain with that, the captain chose her as the team's personal guide. She wasn't at all amused but the captain thought it was a good idea. So when they received the last message from captain Rodriquez, Starfleet decided to put the inexperienced away team to the task. A few days after the message, they found the remains of the cargo fleet that was let by captain Rodriquez. In the debris was a vessel that still had partial habitable. That's when the final decision came in and that commander Larby was to ready the team for a data retrieval mission.

'After continuous scans we found the debris of what was an cargo-transport fleet. There is only one ship still operating, but it needs to be outfitted with portable batteries. When you've done that, partial systems will come online. Then you need to download any log from the last days, any comm log, system logs, personal logs and the captain's logs.' a woman sitting if front raised her hand. 'yes, miss Sanchez.' Larby said. 'Wouldn't it be invading the privacy when we download personal logs, sir.' Larby laughed nicely, but she didn't feel like laughing. She was more concerned. Although this wasn't a dangerous mission, they were so fresh and inexperienced that everything became dangerous. 'If only the captain could see that.' she thought. 'No it wouldn't be invading there privacy because every crewmember on board that ship is dead. So there is no one to invade the privacy from.' by every word she said she became more and more firm with the way she spoke. Now she sounded almost mad at the one who asked the question. 'And even if it was invading there privacy, it was justified with the thought that we would probably find whoever who's responsible for what happened here.'.
The woman shrank back in her chair while Larby continued her speech. “So, as I said, you need to download every log there is available. Keep an eye out for the sensor logs. That's probably the most important of all.” She tapped a few buttons on her console and a overlay from the derelict vessel appeared on the view screen. She tapped on another few buttons and the screened zoomed in on a piece of the ship. “You will be transported directly to engineering. There you can place the batteries in the service socket right next to the main engineering console. Then you need to find your way to the bridge. When you're on the bridge, you can easily access all the files you need.” she paused for a minute. Then she continued on the most serious tone she could speak. 'now, when you board the ship, you will be welcomed by a crew that isn't really full of life anymore. This might be a bit shocking but try to keep your mind to your objectives. As soon as you have all the information, we will transport you back. Understood?' Larby looked around in the room. Nobody had any questions. 'Ok, now report to the equipment room and put on your ev-suits. And since this is an data retrieval mission with virtually no danger, you will only be equipped with an standard phaser.' Again, Sanchez raised her hand to ask a question. “yes, miss Sanchez”
“Sir, do we need environmental suits? Isn't there a way to activate the environmental systems?”
”No, there is not. It would take a lot of time to activate those systems. It's much easier if you stay in ev-suits. The sooner we have the information, the sooner we can pursue whoever who's responsible.”
'I, sir.' Sanchez sat back again.
'Well then, good luck! Dismissed.' Larby pressed a few buttons on her console again and the viewscreen went back to the view of one of the most important logos in the entire galaxy: the starry circle with the golden wings: the logo of the United Federation of Planets. She stepped away from the console and walked over to the door. Just when she was about to step through the door into the corridor, a familiar voice shouted her name behind her. 'Commander Larby.' Lardy stopped and rolled her eyes. Then she turned around. 'Yes, ensign.' Ensign Sanchez was now in a normal conversation range. 'Commander, is it possible to switch between me and someone else for this mission?'
'Why?'
'Well, to be honest, I don't like ev-suits much. They make me very ill.'
'Well, that's something you must get used to then, because, as the away-team leader, you must set an example for your team. You must set your 'feelings' aside and be strong. So NO, you will not be replaced. Now get ready.' As soon a she was finished speaking, she turned around and walked through the doors, into the corridor.

Larby knew this was a typical Sanchez complaint. When you saw Sanchez for the first time, you would think she walked right out of Starfleet Academy and was already captain of one of those very important teams. This was actually true in some way. Sanchez was a very young and vital, but she lacked self-confidence. She was trained in virtually all know fighting techniques, but was seeing a counsellor to make her more comfortable around people and to get more self-confidence. Larby knew all this because she pulled a little mind-trick towards the counsellor herself. Counsellors couldn't and wouldn't talk about anything that was discussed in the sessions she had with her patient's. It was the famous doctor-patient confidentiality that wasn't allowing here to talk, but commander Larby made it very formal and before the counsellor even knew, she was telling a few things to Larby. Larby needed this because she wanted to know if Sanchez was up to the task to guide the away team through careful situations. Although Larby recommended that Sanchez was replaced be someone else, but the captain thought otherwise. He wanted her to lead this mission because she needed the experience. Not that there was much experience to gain, but she could use all the experience she could get. Her counsellor warned Larby that she would try to back out and that Larby must not let her back out, no matter what the excuse was. So Larby knew that the ev-suit story wasn't all that bad as she let it sound it.

Commander Larby walked through the corridor for a while, but after have walked a few metres, she turned right and walked into a room that looked like an office. Again there was a huge view screen located on the wall on the far left. Right in the middle of the room stood a desk. The desk was shaped like a big C facing downwards, if you looked at it from above. On the desk stood a computer screen and placed in the desk was a huge console.
At the far end of the room stood another desk, but this one wasn't for work. On top of this desk were photographs placed. Photographs of people dressed up in uniforms, a photograph of a woman in a traditional wedding dress standing next to a man in a traditional suit, a photograph of a little boy, a photograph of a men and a few photographs of somewhat older looking men and woman. They seemed very happy together.
Larby walked around her desk towards the opening and sat down in the very comfortable looking chair. She pressed a few buttons and the face of men appeared on the screen. 'Is something wrong, commander?' the man asked.
'Captain, it's not to late to switch, I mean...Sanchez is obviously not capable of handling the team. This all might end up in a big mess.' The man sighed. 'Larby, we have already discussed this: Sanchez is and stays the team’s captain. I will not let her switch with someone else. I know she can do this.'
Larby Sighed. 'Very well, captain. But don't come crying to me when something bad happens.'
'Believe me, commander, you will be the last one to see me cry.' the men smiled. 'Well, if that's it....'
'That’s it, captain. Larby out.' she disconnected the line. She sat quietly for a moment, thinking about the mistake she was making about letting Sanchez go.

After a short while, Larby stood up and walked out her office. She was again finding herself in the corridor. She walked further into the corridor before turning to the left. This time she walked straight into the personal transporter-room of the away-teams. She winked at the man behind the console and went to stand in front of him. 'Now we wait' she thought.

She didn't have to wait long be fore the first one arrived. It was a man, an Andorian. He was tall and blue off course. Larby was somewhat impressed that he didn't ask to be replaced. Those antennas were difficult to disguise in a helmet. It must hurt much. The man walked over to one of the transporter padds.
A few seconds later a man and a woman arrived. The woman was Vulcan. She was specialized in many known medical standards. It was commander Larby's idea to put in a member that had the medical specialty, just in case. So she always went with the team, even on data retrieval missions.
The man was human. His specialty was engineering, what came quite in handy on missions like these. However this man was young and reckless. He had proven to Larby that he wasn't a really patient man. One day when they were practicing on the holodeck turned a whole station, and his team, to dust. They were practicing a data retrieval mission that had a side-effect. They were ordered to retrieve any information, when they suddenly were attacked by Klingon ships. Sanchez gave the order to raise shields and weapons, but to stand down till she had spoken to the Kligons. When he noticed that he couldn't arm the weapons, because there wasn't enough power, he decided to reroute power from all other systems to the weapons. This wasn't a bad decision, but the next one was. Sanchez finally had made contact with the Klingons, who thought they destroyed one of their vessels when they passed trough. Sanchez assured them that they had only transported to the station recently, and the discussion went on and over, until the Kligons believed Sanchez. The klingon commander ordered the rest to stop there attacks, but one of the ships had fired a torpedo before the order was given. The torpedo had hit the station and the engineer thought the Klingons were still attacking the station. Without any orders he armed the weapons to 125%, and fire
on the Klingons. Before he knew it, one of the phaser-arcs exploded, causing a feedback shurch into the station. Before anybody could do a thing, the whole station exploded and the hologrid rematrialized. Since that incident, Larby watched the young engineer very closely.

The two stepped onto the padds, when Ensign Sanchez walked into the room. They were all dressed in environmental-suits, and when Sanchez stepped onto the padd, they all putted on there helmets. 'We'll keep an open comm link at all time. Ready?' Larby asked. Sanchez looked around her to her theme and then looked back to Larby. She nodded and Larby gave the order to energize.

Kleine "Update" van het verhaal waarvan ik dacht dat het nog zo slecht niet was. Thnx in ieder geval voor de positieve reacties. Hopen dat het zo blijft :-P

-----------------------------------------------------------

A few seconds later, the team materialized in the engineering room of the galaxy class vessel. It was strange to see the vessel in this state. All the lights were out and sparks flew from broken cables hanging out of the ceiling. The first thing they needed to do was to activate there flash lights or else they wouldn't be able to find the service socket at all. When they did they all let out a little sigh. It was terrible to see a ship in this state. Everything was completely thrown over each other. The main engineering table was pushed against the warp core. Consoles had exploded. There was almost nothing left from the original engineering. “I hope that there is something left to plug this battery in.'” the young engineer said. “Don't worry, Paul. I'm sure that Larby had thought of that.” Sanchez turned to him with a smile on her face. “Speaking of Larby, I should probably check in with her.” She tapped her comm badge. “Away team to Larby.”
“Larby here. It took you to long to check in, ensign. Watch that.” that wasn't exactly true and Larby knew it, but somehow she wanted to discipline the team. “Now, what's your status?”
“We've just materialized in engineering and are now proceeding to the console.”
“Very well. Proceed.”
“Stand-by” and Sanchez tapped her comm badge again. 'Follow me' She winked at her team. They walked around the warp core and stepped into the little chamber located in front on the core.

When they walked inside, they noticed that the damage there was significantly less than outside the little room. They looked around for a moment and then young engineer saw the service socket and walked over to it. After he cleaned away small part of debris, he opened up the hatch. He saw that the service socket was still in good shape but without power. He immediately tapped his commbadge. “Furnold to Larby. I've accessed the service socket. Ready to transport my tools now.”
“Understood. Stand by.” Larby responded. After a few seconds a small box and a toolkit materialized right next to the engineer. He opened the toolbox and looked at his commander. Sanchez looked around as if she was hoping to find a engineer alive and able to power up the ship himself. Then, after she realized that no one was coming, she turned to her own engineer and nodded. “Proceed” she gave the order.

Not long after she gave the order, the engineer was finished plugging in the battery. “We'll have enough power to bring us to the bridge and to download the logs. But that's all. And we need to hurry up!”
“Sanchez.” Ensign Sanchez turned around and saw the Andorian standing in front of her. “I've scanned this part of the ship with my tricorder. I think I can lead us to nearest turbolift.”
“That's great.” Furnold said while trying to stand up. “If the turbolifts were working. Unfortunately they don't because they consume to much energy.” The Andorian looked at his tricorder and began scanning again. After a few seconds he looked at his team-mates again. “Then....we'll go to the nearest Jeffries tube. The only thing that's in the way are our ev-suits. It will be difficult to crawl inside the tubes with those....things.”
“We'll figure something when we get there.” Sanchez said to the team. “Shoran, you lead the way.”the andorian started to walk the route that he planned on his tricorder. The rest of the team followed him.

They were stunned to see the rest of the ship in, sometimes, even worse state than the engineering room. “What could do something like this. It's a complete mess. This whole ship...seems like it's been...torn apart.” Sanchez asked herself and her team.
“Obviously you don't have much experience with alien species. There’re a lot of species that have the ability to do significant damage to a ship of this seize. However, it is illogical to speculate right now.” The female Vulcan said, speaking for the first time since they materialized in the engine room. 'Typical for a Vulcan say something like that' Sanchez thought and was about say something back when Shoran suddenly stopped. “There it is.” He pointed at a small hatch in the wall. “We're just a few decks away from the bridge. But it's a difficult crawl with the suits on.” Sanchez thought about what she had to do. She always found it difficult not to throw up in her suit, but she didn't really had that feeling this time. Still, she didn't dare to take the risk, so she knew what to order. “Shoran, you and P'tal go to the bridge and download the logs. Furnold and I stay here and watch the battery status nd try to download the Engineering logs. She knew that it wasn't really protocol, but she thought that nothing could go wrong.
“Yes, sir.” Shoran said and he opened the hatch. “We'll keep an open commlink. Good luck” Sanchez said when Shoran and P'tal started to crawl inside the hatch.

After their separation, Sanchez and Furnold went back to the engine room. Sanchez thought about whether she made the right choice or not by leaving the team.“Is that nausea really that bad?”Furnold asked when they entered the engine room. Sanchez snapped out of her thoughts. “What?”she said dreamingly. “You won't fool me. We go to far back for that. You always were the one that didn't wan't to go on 'missions' when we were on the academy. But that wasn't because the suit made you ill. No, I thought that was because the suit gave you a rash, or was it because it made you sneeze?” He said cynically. “It's true this time. I really don't like ev-suits.” Sanchez said back to him. They entered the small room next to the warp core. Sanchez began accessing the logs. "Yeah, that may be, but is that a reason to let a part of your team climb to the bridge without you? And without knowing what's out there?”[/i]He asked while looking at the battery. “I had to make a decision and I made it.” Sanchez said to him. “I will make a note in my log that you don't agree. Now I suggest that you.....”
“I know, you suggest I follow those decisions, but as a friend, I just wanted to say that this wasn't the right decision to make.” He turned to the battery and before Sanchez could say anything, he already spoke. “I hope they hurry up. We don't have much time left.”

At that exact moment, a hatch on the wall of the bridge opened and a man in a suit came out of it. He opened up a tricorder and scanned a bridge. Protocol. He quickly put the tricorder away and turned to the hatch again to help a female get out of it. She looked around and then looked at her partner. “I think I can access most logs from there.” He pointed at a station behind the captain’s chair. “Maybe you can download a few medical logs. You'll never know what you might find.” He said. She nodded agreeingly. They both went to other sides of the bridge. After a few minutes Shoran needed help from engineering. When he tried to access the logs, the computer gave only one simple answer: Unable to comply, A level 2 clearance code is required. He tapped at the wrist computer of his suit. “Shoran to Furnold. I'm having difficulties to access the logs. I don't have a level two clearance code. Can you do something about it?” Through a commline the voice of the young engineer sounded even younger than he was. “That's strange, we don't have any difficulties here. But stand by, I'll see what I can do.” and the voice disappeared again.
A few moments past and Shoran was thinking about the history of his people with the Vulcans. He looked at P'Tal. “It’s strange, isn't it?” P'Tal looked away from the console, towards him. “Our people have a long history together. We fought many battles against each other and here we are....together exploring an unknown ship.”
“Would you prefer we fight?” She asked him back.
“Ohw, come on. You know what I mean. If I remember correctly, the war between our species really began when the Vulcans had an illegal listening post in one of your sanctuaries. We Andorians didn't like that very much.”
“We Vulcans do have their black pages in history. However, I do not understand the logic between downloading ships logs and discussing the Andorian/Vulcan relation history.”
“It's just that I'm proud that we are now working together. As friends.” P'Tal looked at him, raised an eyebrow, and then turned back to her console. On that moment, Shoran was contacted by the engineer. “Furnold to Shoran. I've crossed a few circuits. If anything’s Correct, you should be able to access the logs now!”
“Thank you. Shoran out!”Shoran turned to his console again. This time, when he tried to access the log, he didn't get the message. Instead he got a list of every available log there was. He decided to download all the logs. 'Just to be sure.' He thought. He opened up his tricorder and began making a link with the computer. When he got one, he pressed a few buttons on his console and the dowload began. “I've began downloading the logs. Do you have any success?”
“I was unable to find any useful information about medical examinations, until now. I have began downloading the logs now.”P'Tal answered Shoran. She was barely finished speaking, when suddenly the bridge went dark, and all the consoles went out.

Thnx for asking ;)
