Castmember Atlantis gaat weg (spoilers)

waarom konden ze niet Ronon gewoon weg doen
Tis nu cker dusOne of Stargate Atlantis's own will not be with the show in Season Four, according to reports. Paul McGillion will no longer be a regular cast member, with his character Dr. Carson Beckett departing in the second half of Season Three.
Fans have speculated about the move for months based on subtle hints from various cast and crew, even establishing a campaign at SaveCarsonBeckett.com before the news was confirmed, to try and change the producers minds. The news was confirmed by executive producer N. John Smith at last week's Collectormania event in England.
Smith reportedly told fans that Dr. Beckett won't be killed off, but instead will disappear in the second half of the current season. Though McGillion will not be a regular in Season Four, he may return for future episodes.
The producers made a similar move in Season Two, with actor Rainbow Sun Francks ("Aiden Ford") departing the show but returning for multiple episodes.
"I think each character is beginning to find the different layers and sometimes the darker side of the characters," McGillion recently told Eclipse Magazine. "I can tell you one thing for Beckett as a character in the second half of the season, there's a lot of major plot lines that are developed throughout with Beckett in mind and I think the fans will be in for some big surprises."
As a guest star, Paul McGillion played a key role in Stargate Atlantis's premiere episode, "Rising."
Though the actor refused to comment on Dr. Beckett's rumored fate until after the episode has aired, he did stress that the show's producers "do listen to what the fans say."
McGillion was a recurring guest star in the show's first season, and promoted to regular cast member in Season Two. His role on the show as Atlantis's chief medical officer is rumored to be replaced by actress Jewel Staite (Firefly), who will play the recurring role of a medical doctor named Dr. Keller (story).
He said that filming the 2-hour pilot movie, and working with co-star David Hewlett ("Rodney McKay"), have been among the highlights of his three years on Stargate Atlantis. "Working with David Hewlett has been a tremendous experience," he said. "I just love working with David; we have a really great chemistry acting-wise on the show and he's become such a good friend of mind as well, so that's something else that I'll treasure."
Visit Eclipse Magazine for the full interview with Paul McGillion. New episodes of Stargate Atlantis are now airing in Canada, and will begin on SCI FI Channel in the U.S. in March.

Staite talks Atlantis Season Four
Tuesday - December 12, 2006 | by Darren Sumner
Stargate Atlantis's newest recurring guest star is ready for the show's fourth season, which enters production this February in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jewel Staite recently discussed her casting on the series and her new character at her blog.
Beware of spoilers for the second half of Season Three!
Staite will reportedly play Dr. Keller, a brilliant young medical doctor, in Season Four. The show's need for a new doctor follows on the disappearance of Dr. Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion) late in the current season (story). "I know it's finally been revealed that Paul McGillion is leaving the show," Staite wrote to fans, "and since I'm coming on the show, a lot of you have it in your head that I'm 'replacing' him. First of all, our characters are quite different from each other. ... [And] I'm not a regular cast member and I've only signed on to do a certain number of episodes (not 15 -- or at least that was news to me when I heard that on the Internet!).
"One thing I should tell you is that Paul and I are very close friends. He lives three blocks away from me (in my mom's building -- how weird and random is that?) and we see each other all the time. I can honestly say he's one of the sweetest and most lovely people to work with (the crew of Atlantis raves about him), and I really just adore him."
Staite would not reveal anything about the plot developments that lead to Dr. Beckett's absense next season, but did express her own excitement over joining the show.
"I can't comment on the why in terms of his character's absense in the next season," she said, "but the best thing about sci-fi is nothing is forever! ... I'm really excited about coming on to Atlantis and playing another prodigy -- genius mechanic to genius doctor, I am truly moving up in the world! Maybe next time I'll play the president!" (Staite played the brilliant young ship's mechanic Kaylee Frye in the short-lived FOX series Firefly.)
"Just please have an open mind, and don't hate me -- it's not my fault," she added. "I'm just an actor who jumped at the chance to work with a really fun cast in my favorite city (mine) and play a young smarty-pants M.D. with a cool uniform. Can you blame me?"
New episodes of Stargate Atlantis return to the U.S. in April! Keep your browser locked on GateWorld for the latest developments.
