Life after voyager

Voyager reaches Earth

As you will probably know, last Monday Voyager's finale was broadcasted on Dutch television. The ratings for this episodes are still coming in on our homepage.

With the end of Voyager the question arises what's next. Of course, a lot of people are wondering when the next Star Trek series 'Enterprise' will be shown on Dutch television. Unfortunately, we will have to wait some time. The AVRO has not purchased Enterprise because the price was too high and it seems that no other station has purchased Enterprise. Since the BBC didn't manage to obtain the first broadcast rights to Enterprise, we Dutch Star Trek fans will have to wait quite some time before Enterprise premieres on Dutch television.

Luckily, there are some easy ways to obtain Enterprise episodes. The first 10 episodes have been released on videotape in the Netherlands, with the 6th tape scheduled to be released within a few days. If you settle for less quality but want to stay up-to-date, you could try your luck on the internet. Enterprise's second season will start september 18th in the US, with the second part of 'Shockwave'. The trailer for this episode and some generic movies for season two can be found at mediatrek.com.

For some easier Star Trek satisfaction you can also tune into the BBC or SBS6. The BBC has also concluded Star Trek: Voyager and is now broadcasting Star Trek: The Next Generation twice a week. These season two episodes are aired on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on BBC2 at 19:45. SBS6 has just started showing The Original Series. SBS6's sisterchannel Net5 aired the first eight episodes of TOS during the lasts months and SBS6 is kind enough to start from scratch and broadcast the same episodes again. Yippie.

We will probably have to make due with these broadcasts for a while. The seventh season of Star Trek: Voyager has not been repeated on Netherlands 2 and since seasons five and six were, it's more than likely that season seven will also be repeated. The Avro also confirmed this, stating that season seven will be repeated in 2003.

Jeri Ryan as Ronnie Cooke

If you really really really have to see something Star Trek: Voyager related, Friday Net5 starts with the second season of Boston Public. This series focusses around the staff and students of Winslow High and features Jeri Ryan as Ronnie Cooke. Ronnie Cooke gave up a high power career as a lawyer to become an English teacher. Her mysterious background is sure to stir up trouble among the faculty at the school. Boston public is shown from 20:30 until 21:25.

To plug a favorite series of mine, Yorin started the great series 24 last Tuesday. This is really must see tv. If you don't believe me, maybe the fact that Deep Space Nine's Kassidy Jates (Penny Johnson Jerald) plays the role of Shelly Palmer, the wife of the first black presidential candidate, might inspire you to start watching this show. RTL5 shows repeats every sunday evening, so missing last tuesday's episode is not an excuse.
