Meer nieuws van Moore over Battlestar Galactica

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA producer Ronald D. Moore is the subject of an extensive interview at Hollywood North Report's new "Flight Deck", their sub-section devoted to tracking the new GALACTICA series slated to run on The Sci Fi Channel next year. In the five-page interview, Moore talks about his start as a writer on STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, his time spent as showrunner on HBO's CARNIVALE and where his vision is for taking the 50,000 survivors of the Twelve Colonies in GALACTICA's first season of 13 episodes. At the time the interview was conducted, Moore spoke about how far along he was in creating the baker's dozen of shows:

"The first script is written, the second one is on my computer as we speak, the third one is being written, the fourth one is about to go into teleplay, and we’re going to start talking about the fifth one this week," explained Moore to Hollywood North Report. "We have an overall arc for all thirteen in general terms; in broad strokes in terms of where people are going to be by the end of the first season. And we know sort of what the finale is about, and what the events are that will happen by the end of the season, even though we don’t know yet what the plot is."

Moore talks further about the show's direction and drops hints along the way. For instance, he reveals that the nuclear bomb that impacted on the Galactica (seen in the mini-series) will have longterm repercussions on the ship's structure and its abilities. He also talks about the subsequent challenges the survivors will face as they continue to run away from the Cylons: the effects of long-term space travel on the human psyche, the gaps in specialized skills the remaining human population will have, and how the dwindling supply of ammunition will begin to affect the offensive power of the Battlestar and her compliment of Vipers. Another aspect that will be touched upon in the series will be the religious beliefs that the Cylon race has and how their society works. "Bit by bit we will peel back the onion of Cylon society, who the Cylons are, what there values are, and what they care about. We will treat them as people. And just because they’re people doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of doing horrific things. Complicated and interesting villains are the most effective. And no, I’m not really concerned about the audience consequently losing sympathy or empathy for the Colonials," added Moore.

The full interview with Ronald D. Moore can be read here. The BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series will launch on The Sci Fi Channel early next year.
Klinkt erg interessant.

Galactica Launches

SCI FI Channel's upcoming original series Battlestar Galactica begins production this week in Vancouver, B.C., the network announced. Based on the December 2003 miniseries that became the most-watched cable miniseries of the year, Galactica returns to SCI FI Channel as a one-hour weekly drama in early 2005.

Richard Hatch, who starred as Apollo in the original 1970s Battlestar Galactica TV series, will make a special guest appearance in an early episode of the new show, playing a Nelson Mandela-like figure, Peter Zarek. Having spent the last 20 years in jail for inciting civil unrest against the government of the 12 Colonies of Kobol, Zarek and his followers riot against the leadership of the ragtag fleet, taking over the vessel on which they are being held and creating a hostage situation, which Adama (Edward James Olmos) and President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) must resolve.

The show reunites miniseries stars Olmos, McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) and Tricia Helfer (Number Six) with the rest of the Galactica cast. The series is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Michael Rymer, who directed the four-hour mini, returns to direct the series' premiere episode.
