Sydnee Casteel has always been a career minded woman. Within 6 years she managed to jump up to assistant-chief Operations on a prototype class starship. Mainly for her expertise on multi-phased energydynamics, what is a rare sight for someone at her age (she wrote a astonishing thesis about this).
Sydnee has a warm personality, but when it comes to her job, especially when it's got something do to with her tasks in Operations, she can be as sharp as glass and doesn't mind a good pun to make sure everything goes the way she wants.
But under that layer of proffesionalism lies a caring person who wants to be liked by everyone. Sydnee makes easily friends and is fun to be around with...Except that is, when the stress is high on the workfloor.
Being a hopeless romantic makes her sometimes an easy target for the men around her and she has had many relationships which never turned out to be long-time. She will always put her work on the first place...
In 2376 she went missing in action when the prototype slipstream starship USS Sirius was lost. She and only a handfull of others were rescued after two years from an unkown planet in unknown regions of space.
She was placed on inactive duty for rehabilitation, but after a few months the stars were lurking again. Back on duty, she started off slowly on a starbase close to earth, but when she got the chance to serve as Operations officer with Captain Barton, she took it with both hands.

"Yay! Mijn eerste log. Eigenlijk heb ik er een hekel aan, maar ik ben ook niet echt iemand die de regels overtreed. Ik keek echt uit naar deze baan, maar ook weer niet. Uiteindelijk heb ik mezelf over de streep getrokken. Vol goede moed. Ik had zelfs de afspraak met mijn psychiater afgezegd omdat ik eindelijk weer het gevoel had dat ik het hele universum aan kon.
Momenteel staat die afspraak weer...
Dat gevoel van overwinning verdween als sneeuw voor de zon toen ik een duikvlucht maakte voor de ogen van bijna de gehele senior staff. Zelfs de mensen die er niet bij waren weten ervan. Het ergste vind ik nog wel dat ze er achter mijn rug grappen over maken en merk heus het gegrinnik als ik voorbij loop. 'Pas op het afstapje' is iets wat ik de laatste tijd iets teveel heb gehoord. Ze moesten eens weten. Al die vooroordelen altijd! Ik ga me nu extra goed bewijzen. Ik moet ze eraan helpen herinneren dat ik de beste keus ben voor Operations!"

"Ow, qua werk gaat het goed. Slechte systeemconfiguratie overigens hier aan boord. Ik ben nu bezig met een eigen stukje systemcore-samenstelling. Ik moet daarom niet vergeten binnenkort met de Captain en Chief Engineer te babbelen over een wat grotere aanpak waar ik hun hulp en toestemming voor nodig heb. Namelijk het formateren van enkele datacores die ik zelf weer wil opbouwen en reconfigureren. Maar dat is voor de volgende keer.
