bron, originele artikelAbrams Says New "Trek" For Non-Fans
After his panel at the New York Times' 6th Annual Arts & Leisure Weekend, Entertainment Weekly sat down with Mission: Impossible III helmer and Lost creator J.J. Abrams to get an inside look at his new Star Trek movie.
Abrams confirmed a draft of the script is done and will be trimmed sometime soon. As for the target audience - "On the one hand, for people who love Star Trek, the fix that they will get will be really satisfying. For people who've never seen it or know it vaguely, I think they will enjoy it equally, because the movie does not require you to know anything about Star Trek. I would actually prefer [that] people don't know the series, because I feel like they will come to it with an open mind."
There's no word on a director or casting yet, but Abrams is anxious to move forward. "I can't wait to do this. It is an absolute thrill to work on this project. We really are still like, 'How the hell are we able to do this?'" says Abrams.

http://trekweb.com/articles/2007/01/11/ ... r-in.shtmlCaptain Christopher Pike To Appear in Star Trek XI
Robert Sanchez at IESB.net claims to have access to a few pages of the Star Trek XI script.
According to him, the script was turned in three weeks ago and it is currently being "polished up."
"So while it's old news that the new storyline will involve a young Kirk and Spock," Sanchez wrote "we have been told to expect to see Captain Christopher Pike and our favorite Scottish, miracle-working engineer Montgomery Scott, or as he is best known, Scotty originally portrayed by James Doohan."
Christopher Pike was captain of the starship Enterprise for many years, as the immediate predecessor to later Captain James T. Kirk, and succeeding Captain Robert April. He was played by the late Jeffrey Hunter in the 1964 pilot The Cage.
Also, according to IESB, the feature film’s storyline is non-linear, there are different timeframes addressed.
This information is preliminary, of course, and entirely rumor.

BEAM ME UP JAMES
STAR SPOTTING Actor's top Trek
By Toby Mcdonald
SCOTS star James McAvoy's latest job offer is out of this world - playing Scotty in Star Trek.
Producers of longawaited movie Star Trek XI think the 28-year-old is perfect for the iconic role.
And Trekkies agree - they have been campaigning for James, who stars in epic The Last King of Scotland, to get the part on fan websites.
The script for the new film has just been finished by Lost creator JJ Abrams and will star Matt Damon as Captain Kirk.
Paramount Pictures said: "We are very excited about the film. Casting is in the early stages - we cannot comment on any names yet."
But an insider revealed: "The producers are keen to have a Scottish Scotty and James is the No.1 choice.
"They think he could form a brilliant double act with Matt. James' star is on the rise after The Last King of Scotland. He's Scottish and has box office appeal so he fulfils both criteria."
The movie will feature a young Kirk and Spock just out of Space Academy. In the original film they were played by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
Being Scotty - first played by the late James Doohan - is a dream role for sci-fi fan James, who shot to fame in hit drama Shameless.
The Glasgow-born actor is to star in another sci-fi movie, Wanted. He said: "I have a passion for sci-fi. Films, books, memorabilia, art - I'm an addict.
"It dates from when I read The Lord of the Rings at 11.
"After that I read Frank Herbert's Dune chronicles and watched Star Trek."
Filming on Star Trek XI is due to start this year.
McAvoy's agent was unavailable for comment.
