Het AD heeft vandaag in een miniberichtje bekend gemaakt dat de film in de VS op eerste kerstdag in 2008 in premiere gaat. Betekend dit dat het geen wereldwijde premiere wordt?

Ok, is officieel bevestigd geworden door JJ Abrams dat Captain Kirk in StarTrek: XI zal spelen.

In the new issue of Star Trek Magazine, JJ Abrams finally breaks his silence….a tiny bit. Trek XI’s producer/director tells the official Trek mag "James T Kirk appears in the movie."

J.J. Abrams has confirmed that James T. Kirk will be a presence in the upcoming Star Trek feature film, but the look of the film may be quite different from its predecessors, as it will be without the design talents of Herman F. Zimmerman.

TrekMovie.com reported that Abrams told the new issue of Star Trek magazine, "James T Kirk appears in the movie." It has been widely assumed that this was the case since William Shatner (Kirk) reported discussions with the director-producer about who might take over the role, but this is the first time Abrams has gone on the record with that statement.

However, TrekMovie.com also noted that the eleventh Star Trek feature film will be the first since the era of The Next Generation not to have Zimmerman - who also worked on Deep Space Nine, Enterprise and numerous other Star Trek projects - on crew as the production designer.

"I am officially retired," said Zimmerman, who added that he has "enjoyed being the keeper of the flame as far as the look of the franchise since 1987...it is more fun than work." Zimmerman knew original series creator Gene Roddenberry and described himself as a childhood fan of the show.

On the hiring of Scott Chambliss to take over production designe, Zimmerman said it made sense for Abrams to choose someone he had worked with previously, and Chambliss, who designed Mission: Impossible III, obviously had the background.

"Those two icons of popular television literature and are being rediscovered, and Scott Chambliss has the opportunity to reinvent both of them," noted Zimmerman, who added that if it was up to him, the new franchise directors would leave the original series exterior designs largely as they are but give the interiors a "sprucing up", perhaps taking cues from the more realistic bridge of Enterprise's NX-01.

TrekMovie.com cites "a number of sources" as confirming that ILM, the special effects studio of Star Wars creator George Lucas, will create special visual effects for Star Trek, as the eleventh movie is expected to be called. Director J.J. Abrams worked with ILM on Mission: Impossible III, while the studio has worked with the Star Trek franchise on and off since Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

The original Enterprise will also reportedly appear in the film, though it will likely be an all-digital model like the one used in the remastered original series episodes since ILM has sold its model shop to focus on all-digital effects. Since Star Trek: The Motion Picture began with Kirk's Enterprise getting a refit in spacedock, the very first model of the Enterprise has never been seen on the big screen.

Abrams and screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have repeatedly said that they are striving to update the look and feel of Star Trek without straying too far from the original universe and its fan base. What that will mean in terms of the Enterprise is yet to be seen.

Nadat recentelijk Zachary Quinto en Leonard Nimoy beide waren aangesteld voor de rol van Mr. Spock, is nu onthuld dat de in Rusland geboren acteur Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog) de rol van Pavel Chekov op zich neemt. Chekov, oorspronkelijk gespeeld door Walter Knoenig, is navigator aan boord van de USS Enterprise.

Waar de elfde Star Trek film precies over gaat is nog onduidelijk, wel duidelijk is dat de film een soort prequel wordt en vertelt over de gebeurtenissen van de crew aan de Starfleet Academy.

Discussiëren over Star Trek XI casting kan hier

Filmen gaat beginnen op 5 november. Ze schijnen een grote naam te zoeken voor de vijand in de film. De wekt de suggestie dan men zich toch ook aan het voorbereiden is op een mogelijke serie of meer films.

Er waren eerst plannen voor grote namen voor de main cast. Die plannen waren ook vrij serieus. Dit is nu helemaal omgeslagen in wat kleinere namen. Ze zullen de grote naam voor op de filmposter vermoedelijk toch nog wel willen hebben, blijft de grote vijand over. De omslag komt vermoedelijk doordat CBS graag een Star Trek tv serie wil. Meerdere keren aangegeven. Dat het filmen op 5 november gaat beginnen komt trouwens van trektoday.

Geen goede ontwikkeling. Paramount wil dus geen 'major overhaul'; een complete fikse reboot cq. relaunch. Het blijft ook bij Trek XI dus low budget. En juist een nieuwe Trek film zou de redding kunnen zijn van de franchise. De combinatie CBS/Paramount gaat niet werken. De ene wil een mega-productie, de andere liever een budget voor een serie. Geen goede ontwikkeling.

The villain in the new Star Trek film will be played by an Australian, but not (as rumored) Russell Crowe. Trek’s new bad guy will be played by Eric Bana star of the 2005 Steven Spielberg film Munich . According to Variety the 38 year-old Aussie has signed on to play a character called ‘Nero,’ but no other details have been provided
