Star Trek Prequel Triology
IGN.com schreef:A Star Trek Prequel Trilogy?
This isn't the first time the idea has been tabled.
March 26, 2004 - AICN surprised Trek fans this week with a report that Paramount could be considering a trio of prequel Star Trek films.
According to their source, Paramount is rejecting Berman and Braga as producers – good news in itself – and instead putting veteran film and television producer Jordan Kerner (Fried Green Tomatoes, the Mighty Duck trilogy) in charge of the potential trilogy. The objective seems to abandon the character-based nature of Star Trek in favor of big galaxy-shattering stories.
Film one would allegedly be about some kind of civil war, presumably within the Federation. The second would be about the Federation's switch "from fission to fusion" (how that can be a story plot, I don't know). The third would introduce young Ensign Kirk, though he wouldn't be a main character.
It would be a trilogy of films without an Enterprise. It wouldn't go where no one had gone before. It wouldn't feature the tightly-knit crews and personalities that made the more successful films so good. And it would probably break continuity something terrible. A convoluted time-travel plot à la the Enterprise series wouldn't be out of the question either.
The Trek movie franchise is floundering for want of direction, but the idea of going backwards will sound like a disturbingly bad idea to many fans. Enterprise has certainly shown itself to be less than an improvement – in many people's eyes, at least – to the Star Trek name. However, the idea of a prequel film is not a new one.
Back in 1989, Harve Bennett, producer of Star Treks II through V, proposed to Paramount a movie called Star Trek: The Academy Years. It was to be "a joyful script about cadets Kirk and Spock in a simpler time." The idea was to show Kirk, Spock, and McCoy as young recruits at Starfleet Academy, having a good time and encountering future Enterprise crewmembers like Montgomery Scott, a young Engineering instructor. It would have been a pre-warp era, something that obviously conflicts with the now-established Star Trek history. John Cusack was to play Spock, and Ethan Hawke to play young James T. Kirk. The sordid details are revealed in an article at StarTrek.com.
Fortunately that time, Paramount was in a hurry to get a 25th anniversary film out, and opted to go with a film that used the actors viewers were familiar with. And a good thing too, since Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country went on to be one of the best films of the franchise.
This time, with no firm set of established Trek actors pegged for future movies, anything is possible.

Re: Star Trek Prequel Triology
burgeroorlog?
"from fission to fusion"?
young Ensign Kirk?

Lijkt me beter.
Die brainstormen bevatten wel een paar aardige elementen.
